Rain. How do you feel about rain?
We have had a bit of rain lately here where we live. And. We are expecting a bit more in the next few days. It is difficult to be disappointed in the forecast as we haven’t had enough moisture in the last months. But, gray days can be difficult to endure.
No sun. Big puddles. Windshield wipers pounding out a beat. Chilly air. Wind gusts forcing inverted umbrellas.
Rain. Too much and we have a flood. Too little and we have a drought. The earth needs the right amount of rain at the right time to flourish. With that in mind, the enjoyment of rain seems to be a matter of perspective.
There are delights in a bit of rain. The drop in fire danger. Moisture for the farmers’ spring planting. Cozy warm lamp light diverting the weather’s shadows. And then there is the joy of a little boy learning how to manage his sister’s umbrella. To say nothing of the delight of splashing in rain puddles.
“…respond with the supple moves of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish…” Matthew 5:45, The Message
Did you notice? Supple moves of prayer…and…rain to nourish.
